Nineteen years in this business taught me to read the container before the contents. In August 2017 I traced transaction pools during the CryptoKitties congestion and published the root cause forty-five minutes ahead of the wires. That was possible because a mempool is public, deterministic, and unforgiving. Every pending transaction carries a signature, a nonce, a gas bid. Nothing about it asks you to trust. That is information laundering, and it is more effective than censorship because it leaves no fingerprints. The wire never claimed the strike was trivial. The aggregator never claimed it was trivial. The vertical never claimed it was trivial. Each merely declined to state its weight, and the compounding effect of three declining actors is a headline that reads like a scheduling nuisance attached to a war-level event.

Here is what I keep coming back to. If it isn't on-chain, it didn't happen โ€” and this didn't happen, in the sense that no verifiable record of what occurred exists in any system that a market can price against. There is no hash, no timestamped attestation, no provenance chain. There is a broadcaster's reputation, which is real but not auditable at the granularity that matters, and there is a republisher's incentive structure, which is entirely about reach.

The crypto industry spent a decade solving double-spend. It has not touched double-claim. Two outlets can assert the same unverified fact, and nothing in the system reconciles them. I have spent enough time in flow data to say plainly: the stablecoin layer is now the shadow correspondent banking system of the sanctioned world, and it does not have a compliance department.

Second: mining. Iran formalized a licensing regime for Bitcoin mining years ago and, at various points, has been estimated to account for a mid-single-digit percentage of global hashrate.
